Marble and Marille (apricots)

Apricot dumplings on tablet

Around 100 farmers between Reschenpass and Meran still cultivate apricots today: Vinschgauer Marille, Ungarische Beste or Goldrich are the names of the varieties that - thanks to the mountain freshness - develop their flavour and aroma more slowly but all the more intensively than elsewhere.

The inhabitants of the small town of Laas have set up a monument to the sweet vitamin bomb - three apricots cover the daily requirement of beta-caroin: With the pleasure and culture festival Marmor & Marillen.
For more than fifteen years now, the festival has allowed visitors to participate in the old Laas traditions of fruit growing and stone quarrying.

Marmor & Marillen: Sculptor

During the festivities, guests can, among other things, look over the shoulders of stone sculptors at the "Laas Marble Workshop" and watch new sculptures being created. In addition, the "Marmorfesttafel" offers original Vinschgau cuisine.

A colourful market with local products and handicrafts, various creative exhibitions by local artists, musical performances, guided tours on the topic of marble and culinary specialities around the apricot complete the programme.
