For centuries, the Mattanza, the traditional tuna hunt off the coast of Sardinia, fed the inhabitants of Carloforte.
Due to overfishing, however, it is more of a tourist event today - if it takes place at all.

Nevertheless, the fishermen still keep the tradition alive during the annual Girotonno - and use the international rendezvous to discuss the conservation of the endangered tunas.

The event with participants from all over the world is a big celebration - with a wide range of food, cooking competitions with top international chefs, show cooking and live performances by well-known artists.
