Wine and Fishing Festival on Reichenau

Monastery Reichenau

Fish, vegetables, fruit and wine. The region around Lake Constance is one of the most fertile in Germany. The area was already settled 5000 years ago, as the pile dwellings at Übersiedler Lake testify.
From the 7th century onwards, the island of Reichenau gained some importance with the building of the Benedictine monastery in Mittelzell.

With the monks came the viticulture: Müller Thurgau, Blauer Spätburgunder and Gutedel are some of the grapes that thrive in Germany's southernmost wine-growing region.
Fishing, on the other hand, has always been practised on Lake Constance: perch, Arctic char and especially bluefish, a species found only here, are still pulled out of the nets by fishermen today.

Music at the Wine and Fishing Festival

Fish and wine are then also components of an annual festival at the marina of Reichenau.
At the beginning of August, the municipality invites its guests to taste local and regional specialities - with musical accompaniment, fanfare and an audience with the Lake Constance Wine Princess.
